Comcast and the disappearing customer

First came the "Upgrades" to their network that removed 50% of the TV channels we typically watched, then came the increased rates for the programming that remained (not much, just enough for me to go "hey, didn't they just REDUCE my offerings???"), and then just a bit more of an increase, then they moved the channels from the "normal" numbering and forced you to use a box or have all your channels on 81.8 or 82.13 or other bizarre channels, and FINALLY, without any warning at all, they move just one final channel away from my basic package and POOF! this customer disappears! I don't know why I didn't go out and buy an antenna a year ago...

OK... gotta give credit when it is due. I have no idea what happened, but yesterday I tried to hook up my router again and this time it worked just fine. NOW... I have no idea what, why, or how this happened, but the router is now WORKING.

Situations like this are not uncommon with devices like this. Sometimes all is well, but something just doesn't want to work right. It could have been Comcast... it could have been my router... it could have been a combination of both. The biggest part of the problem might have even been the person on the other end of the phone telling me that my router needed to be "PROVISIONED".... Maybe this is the kind of lingo they use when dealing with many people that have no idea what the heck is going on with this stuff.

Nonetheless.... my wireless router is working and I am happy to withdraw my original complaint about Comcast blocking it's use.

Comcast in Fremont, California - Pulled TV station....

I just moved from another state 5 weeks ago. I signed-up with comcast for my cable and internet. I got the starter package. Today they just eliminated a station and put it into a Preferred package. It is only TruTV which I watch for COPS and Las Vegas Strip which I enjoy. I had no notice that this was going to be done. It appears that when you sign up for a package, you pay a certain amount but they can change the programming whenever they want. In other words, they do what they want but I must pay even though I signed up for certain stations. They can break their end of the deal but I can't. Is this fair? I am not a happy camper.

If you want to save money on your Comcast bill call 877-824-2288 and ask to speak to the RETENTION Department. They will give you promotions and discounts that no other department can give you.

The promos generally last for 6 months so you have to callback every 6 months. It is worth the trouble because you can get discounts of 25-50%

Comcast in Olathe, Kansas - Price is ridiculous!!!

I called to down size my plan because 60.00 dollars a month for a few more channels is ***. With the "economy" plan I lose ON DEMAND, which is fine with me but the guy tells me that the little extension box in the bedroom will longer work and I will have to plug to TV in the wall just to get the little local channels. I do have the option of paying for a "box" for an extra 8.00 dollars a month if I want the economy package in my room. Nice. Rip, rip , rip off........I am about to get one the "converter"boxes and say forget it to cable companies. People, the only way to stop companies like this is to boycott. Lack of business is the only way to to wake them up.

I have JUST basic and it is now almost 16/month-a few months ago it was 13 and it started out at 5/month

and you just get ***-plus they pull channels... can't see paying their prices to upgrade since I am not a big tv watcher-when I called years ago to change- they thought i wanted to 'upgrade' and when I said I just want the BASIC to just keep it on- they did 'turn' on me.................... :?

FTC hits Comcast CEO Brian Roberts with $500,000 fine. So what he makes over 30 million per year. Brian needs to reread the Comcast code of conduct where he tells employees he will not tolerate dishonesty from us. Why is he on Obama's jobs council? He should be fired. Do as I say, not as I do. Obama's slogan about "change you can believe in" should really be "the more things change the more they stay the same".

It's worse being an employee. At the Lynnwood, WA call center a fat sup named Kim Edwards sent an email requesting off the clock work. We are winning a class action lawsuit against them. Our lawyers are experienced and successful at winning this kind of case and we have the evidence. Comcast thinks that hiring a Perkins Coie lawyer will intimidate us. It just proves that they know they are going down and have a lot of money to waste.

Ginsburg v. Comcast Corporation et al, case number 2:11-cv-01959 western washington district court and king county (WA) superior court case #11-2-34714-1

If you search king county (WA) superior court records Comcast is being sued for not paying unemployment taxes they owe to employment security department

Plain and simple, Customers need to form a class action against Comcast(now Xfinity)for,

1- Price gouging.

2- Unfair business practices.

3- Lying to customers (Bait & Switch tactics).

4- Fraudulent Billing Practices.

5- Changing customers packages and rates without notifying customers in advance.

6- Forcing customers to rent equipment that they don't really need or want just to raise the customers monthly bill for service.

7- Forcing customers to upgrade to a higher prices service and threatening to cut service or take away features if they refuse to upgrade.

8- False advertising.

There you have it folks, 8 good and valid reasons for a class action against Comcast.

The problem is for some reason people are afraid of forming a class action against this company...

I am looking for another company. Can you imagine $180 a month just for tv and internet?

Not even the highest types either, just mid level

$8 per box for 3 tvs HD PLus a $12 HD tech fee each month PLUS a $7 for something called a super HD so just for HD alone we pay $40.

For internet we are paying $64.00

For televison Digital starter NO MOVIE CHANNELS $65

So for JUST BASIC COMCAST TV and INTERNET nearly $200 a month? I don't want this anymore

Seems way too high

I've just spent over 2 hours on the phone with Comcast. I live in the Boston area and received a letter from Comcast that I would need to install the DTA to continue receiving cable channels on my TVs that weren't connected to a cable box. And weren't...

They only tell you that they are giving you the 2 DTAs for free. In about 6 Months they will raise the prices on all service and start charging for the 2 "FREE" DTAs.

Then they tell you that the government "Forced" them to change to digital. I too was receiving local channels in HD through the digital tuner on my TV. Everything worked just fine for $128 month. After the DTA, I was forced upgrade my service to HD, rent a HD DVR box since I could no longer get any HD on the TV and I could no longer use the DVR that I owned.

Add in the extra DTA boxes that I needed and I then had the same service for $168 a month. December's bill comes with an insert informing us that the services are going up and we now have to pay $1.99 a month each for those 2 "FREE" DTAs. New Bill $176 s month.

What a RIPOFF!!! They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Comcast in Portsmouth, New Hampshire - MLB Extra Innings quality of picture

the MLB Extra Innings package is apparently not available in HD thru Comcast (it is with direct TV and other). All other channels are clear but we had to cancel Extra Innings as the quality of the picture was terrible on HD tv and Comcast staff had no idea how to resolve. I find it hard to believe all COmcast customers with HD tv's put up with poor quality picture. A Comcast tech witnessed the excellent picture quality of other programs and poor MLB quality. Direct TV offers many games in HD but Comcast none even though many are listed as being HD.

Comcast is a Ripoff!

Comcast may have a huge press blitz on regarding their “Big Push” to repair its image, unfortunately other than pay a good PR specialist I don’t think they have done anything to change their monopolistic user unfriendly ways. As a senior citizen I am on a limited income. The only time my TV is on is during football season yet the money grubbing, greedy monopoly that Comcast is insists that I pay over $70 a month just to get ESPN as part of a package that I don’t need any other channels from. These rates recently went up. How about a football package like the hockey package they offer. No. That wouldn’t get as much money into corporate hands. We have to stop this monopoly and call for a cable customer’s bill of rights. We need protection from the constantly increasing rates for decreasing service.

I agree. Big money for no service and a bad attitude!

PLUS, they charge you a month in advance, then shut you off if you're a minute late paying. I will not pay in advance for service. The bill is NEVER the same from month to month. They nickle and dime you to death too.

I shut Comcast off and am going back to Verizon and DirecTV.

Coprporate greed in this country is what is causing the bad economy. Consumers need to stand up for good old fashioned SERVICE and VALUE.
